Sarah is a political consultant and social entrepreneur. She is a former Prime Ministerial Adviser who has worked on a number of high profile, successful political campaigns and was a key aide to Steve Hilton from 2006 and from 2010. She served as the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser for External Relations until she left Downing Street in 2012 in order to move to Germany to support her husband’s military service and their young family. On returning to the UK she held a senior position in the successful campaign to keep Scotland in the United Kingdom and, more recently, worked for Ruth Davidson during both her highly successful, 2016 Scottish Parliament and 2017 General Election campaigns.
Sarah is currently taking a break from politics in order to pursue her own business interests running a start-up social business helping companies generate social as well as economic value. She describes herself as a ‘disruptive capitalist who believes we all have the power to change the world’.
She is also the founder of McNeill & Stone, a social enterprise which helps people understand how the political system works and how to access and influence it and is passionate about opening up government and giving individuals more influence over their lives and the world around them.
As a former British Army Officer with a War Studies degree in her spare time she helps organisations looking to implement the Armed Forces Covenant and engage more effectively with the military community. She has done extensive work in the field of military spousal employment, including conducting the first ever employment survey of UK military spouses, and opening the first co-working enterprise hub for military spouses based in a military garrison. She also has expertise in the issues surrounding military children’s education and inspired a RUSI research study, due for publication in October 2017, about what it means to be a ‘dependant’ in the 21st century.
Sarah is a Trustee of a not-for-profit community-run pre-school in Edinburgh, an Ambassador for Recruit for Spouses and an adviser to the social enterprise Families in Trauma.
As a spouse of a currently serving member of the armed forces she lives on a military base in Scotland where she is very involved in supporting other enterpreneurs within the military spouse community.
